Abstract: This paper explores the intersection of women’s rights and human rights in the context of India, analyzing the evolving landscape of gender equality, legal frameworks, and the challenges women continue to face in exercising their fundamental rights. Despite India’s commitment to various international human rights conventions, including the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW), women in India remain disproportionately affected by gender-based violence, socio-economic inequalities, and political marginalization. The paper examines key legislative reforms aimed at protecting women’s rights, such as the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act (2005) and the Criminal Law (Amendment) Act (2013), while critically assessing their implementation and effectiveness. The study also highlights grassroots activism, the role of women’s movements, and the increasing use of digital platforms to advocate for gender justice. The paper concludes with a discussion on the gaps in policy and practice and suggests measures for enhancing women’s human rights in India, emphasizing the need for holistic, inclusive, and intersectional approaches to gender justice.
